Did I Make It?

If you’ve been following this blog since at least Memorial Day, you know I have been on a quest for 800,000 steps. The results are in, and I achieved my goal. And then some. I kinda wish I had tried for a million because I almost made it!

For this 14-week period, I recorded 963,414 steps. Can I get a woot-woot?

I averaged 9,831 steps a day, and I lived to tell about it. Whew! I feel good. I feel strong.

One thing I didn’t tell you about is that I also started on the Curves exercise program. I never would have thought of taking this step on my own. If your Curves is like my Curves (and I have a sneaking suspicion it is) , the hours and days are limited. I figured the workout would be completely unchallenging, given the aggregate age of the customers (I’m thinking around age 60).  Who wants to spend a half-hour a day working out and getting no results? But I had this sister who saw tremendous results with it. So I gave it a try.

Holy cow. I was so wrong. I work up a sweat on that Curves circuit. Between that and the walking (and, yeah, I’ve been watching what I eat), I lost 13 pounds and 11 inches in the last 14 weeks. Yes!

Okay, what did I learn? I learned to listen to my body, for both aches and pains and hunger pains. I learned the benefits of macro-patterning with a protein-fat-carbohydrate combination. (Still learning, though. Not perfect at it.) I learned a little bit about re-setting my hormones for optimal efficiency. Overall, yeah, I’m feeling pretty proud of myself and am excited about what is to come.

Got a long way to go, and I’ve been on this journey a long time. It’s taken me about a year-and-a-half with a few ups between the downs to lose just shy of 40 pounds. That seems extremely long to me. But you know what? It’s 40 pounds of healthy fat loss, never to come back (please, please, please, please…). I’m actually more confident on that end than I’ve been in a long time as well. I figure, hey, I’m adding muscle. The greater the muscle, the higher my metabolism, right?

Between now and the end of the year, I won’t be focusing on steps. Instead, my concentration will be on building more muscle. In addition to the Curves workouts, I’ll be doing some strength training with body weight, small hand-held weights, and a yoga ball. I’ll let you know how it’s going here and there. Thanks for listening.

Enjoy your day. Enjoy this blog.
